A Multigenerational Breckenridge Family Vacation
From youngsters to grandparents, these summer events and activities will please your whole crew.
Breckenridge Resort is made for adventurers of all ages, abilities and interests. During summer months, the famed snow-loaded ski resort thaws into a high-alpine playground built for kids, adults and grandparents. Here are a dozen-plus ways everyone in the family can explore and make memories together.
Breckenridge’s Epic Discovery is a mountaintop oasis for family fun. Get the lay of the land with a scenic ride up Peak 8’s Colorado Super Chair. Grandparents: Take in the bird’s eye view of three of Colorado’s famous 14ers while the grandkids eye their routes down the alpine slide and forest-flanked roller coaster. Snap photos of Lake Dillon, Keystone Resort and the Continental Divide to the east.
Arrive at the top and wander around Alpine Camp’s engaging interpretive hiking trails. These mellow treks make it easy for kids to learn about Rocky Mountain flora and fauna. Hike among purple, orange and white wildflowers popping against greening summer slopes and watch for marmots and pika as they poke in and out of their burrows.
Sign on for a guided mountain biking, hiking or 4×4 excursion for a deeper dive into the local landscape. Tip: Take the Colorado Super Chair up to Alpine Camp for a free hike with a U.S. Forest Service Ranger daily at 11:45 a.m. and explore the Alpine Loop Trail as well as the Horseshoe Bowl Hiking Loop.
Half day, full day or just a few hours, an Epic Discovery Adventure Pass allows toddlers to teens to cherry pick go-at-your-own-pace activities that include the Gold Runner Coaster, alpine slides, summer tubing, climbing walls, mini golf, gemstone panning, ziplining and much more. Centrally situated Peak 8 Base Camp makes for a convenient kicked back viewing perch for slower going family members to grab a drink, sunbathe and watch the youngsters hop from activity to activity. Tip: The outdoor Ski Hill Grill serves excellent barbecue and Colorado microbrews on a relaxed slopeside patio.
More adventurous family members will want to hit the environmentally inspired Alpineer Challenge Course (think ninja warrior meets high-swaying ropes course) and the Expedition Zipline Tour located at the Independence Outpost featuring adventure high above the forest floor across ziplines and an aerial bridge walk.
Get the whole gang involved in a friendly, but competitive (loser buys happy hour?), family round of mini golf. Nine holes of challenging—yet easy enough for the youngest grandkids—features unfold at the base of Peak 8. Every Saturday through August 31st, take the Colorado Super Chair up to the Vista Haus for free family friendly live music. Breckenridge’s Mountain Music Series combines locally loved musicians like Beau Thomas (you may recognize him from NBC’s “The Voice”) with panoramic mountain views. On Fridays from 3 to 6 p.m., bring your pup and enjoy happy hour on the patio at Sevens.
Close out your epic family adventure with a stay at one of Breckenridge’s premier on-mountain lodges where hot tubs and pools provide relaxing respite among well-appointed guest suites with onsite bowling, game rooms, restaurants and more. For an ultra special dining experience on the mountain, book a Breckenridge Stables Horses & Hors d’oeuvres trail ride complete with breathtaking scenery, live entertainment and delicious apps and drinks.
