Toss your skis on the rack outside and sidle up to chef specialty stations where you’ll find locally sourced products playing out in Colorado lamb dishes, a brisket burger (remove the bun for keto diets), and tacos al pastor (minus the tortilla is always an option) made with spit-grilled meat and topped with cotija, cilantro, onion, radishes, cabbage and jalapeno. Down the hill at Sevens inside the Grand Lodge, vegetarian and gluten-free picks are proudly noted on the menu, along with Colorado-sourced products. Try the forest margarita vegetarian pizza with roasted tomato, forest mushrooms, fresh mozzarella, roasted garlic and fresh basil or the Frankie C. calzone stuffed with pineapple, pickled jalapeño, shaved red onion and fresh cilantro. The gluten-free quinoa and kale salad with grapefruit-mint vinaigrette and the beet and burrata appetizer are local favorites.
Feel-good warm-ups and elevated spins on comfort dishes await at The Overlook near the top of Peak 9. The four-cheese pizza is a vegetarian treat with melty mozzarella, provolone, parmesan and Romano. Pair it with the Greek Salad or Peerless Spinach Salad topped with goat cheese and red quinoa. Keto diets love the GMO-free Colorado jalapeño elk, bison and beef bratwursts. The Summit Soba Bowl is chock-full of fresh flavors that include house-made ginger, lemongrass, sake-braised kale and miso broth. In a hurry? A gluten-free haven, loads of options sing here including a lamb T-bone with pea puree and grilled scallion potatoes; organic salmon and a Rocky Mountain trout with lemon aioli. Keto fans: The kebab four ways is ultra satisfying with skewered chicken, beef, salmon and veggies. Vegetarians covet the marinated eggplant with petit greens and berry vinaigrette and the grilled endive with snap peas and goat feta.
Follow the steady stream of locals into Amazing Grace where breakfast unfolds with cheesy gluten-free breakfast tacos topped with spinach, avocado and salsa; wholesome piping oatmeal with blueberries, cinnamon and honey; and an array of oven-hot biscuits, scones and mountainous vegan chocolate chip cookies. Regulars crave the Opus, a housemade biscuit sandwich with scrambled eggs, cheese, spinach and tomato. Soupz On is an excellent quick lunch stop next to City Market, offering friendly walk-up counter service with a daily changing menu of homemade soups and salads that always includes a handful of vegetarian and vegan options. The Mayan Queso and Maize soup and the soul-warming Old Fashioned Tomato Basil are hits.
For a seriously flavorful keto-friendly and gluten-free-focused menu, head to Southridge Seafood Grill on the south end of Main Street. Fresh ocean favorites include the P.E.I. mussels in Thai red curry broth, the Vietnamese grilled calamari, oysters on the half shell with champagne mignonette and for main entrees, the seared sea scallops (vegan option available subbing tofu for the egg) or the Alaskan King Crab with broccolini.
