Ullr Bonfire

Breckenridge is known for its festive lineup of winter events. Here are the must-hit parties, big-name competitions and snow-filled celebrations.

Dew Tour 2012Each December, visit the base of Peak 8 for Dew Tour, when some of the best skiers and boarders from around the globe compete in high-flying competitions. This Olympic-qualifying event showcases gravity-defying slopestyle and halfpipe tricks as stars such as Shaun White and Bobby Brown battle for the podium.

Breck honors the Norse God of Snow January 9–13, 2019 with Ullr Fest, a weeklong winter-loving celebration praying for a new year of abundant snowfall. Take part in free events all over town spanning Nordic skiing to the Ullympics; compete in the frying pan toss or sacrifice your Christmas tree to the town bonfire. Don’t miss the Ullr parade and the Ullr Classic Pond Hockey Tournament.

In late January, the spotlight is on the International Snow Sculpture Championships. This global event draws teams from all corners of the world, such as Spain, France, Mongolia and Mexico. Sculptors work around the clock, shaping the 20-ton blocks of snow outside the Riverwalk Center with nothing but hand tools and artistic vision. Vote for your favorite for the “Peoples’ Choice Award.”

Although far from Louisiana, Mardi Gras in Breckenridge is a party you shouldn’t miss. As if you needed one, the annual Mardi Gras Ball at Beaver Run and the Mardi Gras Parade are great excuses to get the beads, masks and music out and join the fun. Fat Tuesday festivities kick off February 13, 2018.
