Welcome to Breck

Weekend Updates and Conditions for Dec. 3rd

Hi Brent here with your weekend updates and conditions.

Last week’s snow storms dropped a foot of new snow in Breck. Winter has truly arrived now. Now is a good time to bring the family and to see what winter in a mountain town is all about. With all the new snow it has been a surprise as to how short all of the lift lines are. I suggest getting up to the mountain early and getting first chair at 9am.  You’ll get the cream of the crop and be enjoying it the whole way down.

While at the Mercury SuperChair on Friday preparing to open Peak 9 from top to bottom, we had a visit from a few curious bull moose. They peaked their heads up over the ropes next to the lift and checked us out then wandered off for some play time. This was a great reminder to always keep your eyes open, you never know what you will see!

With more terrain opening up this past week, I have been enjoying getting on some new trails. My favorite trail for the last few days has been Bonanza over on Peak 9. The gentle rollers in the terrain gives it a nice variance and makes for a fun run.

If you’re currently in town, I hope you’re making your way over to the Lighting of Breckenridge where 100s of folks in Santa Suits race down six blocks on Main Street, followed by a Bernese Mountain Dog Parade, carolers, and Santa flipping the switch to light the large tree in downtown Breck‘s Blue River Plaza. See the full schedule at www.GoBreck.com.

Over the weekend it looks like we will have sunny to mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid-20s to the lower-30s. Make sure to bring your sunscreen with you! If you are planning a trip up during the week make sure you have plenty of layers on. Sunday night through Wednesday, Dec. 7 we’re expecting to see a drop in the temperature and chances of snow.

UPHILL ACCESS UPDATE

If you are wanting to hit the trails early and enjoy a morning skin adventure – as of tomorrow Sunday. Dec. 4, uphill access will be restricted on Peak 8, but open on Peak 9 due to ongoing mountain operations that are unsafe for uphill travel. Check out more on uphill travel (including the trail/winch cat hotline) here.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. See you on the mountain! peak-8_2
