The 2016 GoPro Big Mountain Challenge
Two years ago, Breckenridge and GoPro introduced the GoPro Big Mountain Challenge. This years it’s back, and its bigger and badder. This IFSA sanctioned event take place on the Six Senses terrain on Peak 6, Breck’s newest terrain. With steep lines, tight chutes, and big cliff drops, this youth freestyle event will test some of the best big mountain free riders in the country as they compete for points in the IFSA series.
This year we saw the addition of a college-level age class, with the introduction of 18 year old athletes to the competition. And what a competition it was, with unreal performances across all age groups. Kids aged 8-18 were throwing down in some of the best conditions we’ve had in the Big Mountain Challenge. Take a look at the video for some highlights.
Also, on the first day of the competition we interviewed one of the younger athletes in the competition, Chase. Am ambitious eleven year old, Chase gave it his all on his run, and even went for a cliff drop. He didn’t nail the landing, but got right up to continue shredding his Six Senses line in style. Check out his line here.
We want to give a huge shout out to all the amazing ski and snowboard athletes that came out for the event. Also, a very big thanks to GoPro for being the title sponsor, and making it all happen. See you out on the cliffs next year!
