[UPDATE!] Powder returns to Breck
UPDATE – We received another 9 inches last night, and the snow today was unbelievable. That makes 18 inches in 48 hours, and the snow is still. coming. down!
Powder returns to Breck! After a few weeks of beautiful warm and sunny weather, the pow has returned in a blaze of deep, champagne snow glory. The storm came in fast yesterday, depositing tiny, dry flakes in abundance with a final 24 hour total coming in at 9 inches. The snow continued into the morning, reseting the slopes after each run for the early birds. While the snow did undergo a brief hiatus this afternoon, it will return with a vengeance tonight (we are looking at another potential 6-9 inches according to opensnow.com), so make sure you get here, or watch tomorrow’s video and live vicariously!
The snow message team was greeted by an enthusiastic T-bar maze, of which everyone was anxiously awaiting some of the deepest snow we’ve seen this season. The trees to the right of the T-bar line skied particularly well, although with the perfect fine grained snow, it was hard to find a spot on the mountain that wasn’t soft and deep. Except of course for the impeccable groomed runs on lower mountain; which were a pleasure to take to get back down for another lap.
As mentioned earlier, the snow is supposed to keep coming this week. Here’s what Joel Gratz at opensnow.com has to say. Tomorrow is looking like one for the books, but even if you can’t play hooky this early in the week the end of the week will be nicely reset from day to day.
Spring Fever is back! This weekend kicks off the best spring event line-up in the rockies with the GoPro Big Mountain Challenge. Check out last years video for a recap of this truly awesome youth big mountain event, and be at Breck this weekend to watch some of the best up and coming snow sports athletes from around the country take on the stunning Six Senses terrain.
