What to expect for spring break in Breck

Depending where you are in America, spring break lands on any given week throughout the entire month of March. Because families with small children and high schoolers alike and as well as college goers know that Breck is a hot spot, you can expect a steady flow of spring breakers all through March.
If the sun is shining (and it usually is), don’t be surprised if you see some exposed torsos on the slopes. Spring break is also time for wacky wigs and costumes, in addition to more whooping (ie: cries of elation) than usual and what is typically the best snow and best weather all season. Besides all of that, here are a few other fun happenings that fall around spring break:
Amazing contests
March 12 Ski Mountaineering Race
The highest ski mountaineering race in America, the guys and gals that enter this event are the real deal. Solo skiers or teams of two slap skins on their boards and climb up Peaks 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 for a total of 7,500 vertical feet – that’s more than some of us cover going downhill in a day. There’s a short course, too, but even that involves more than 3,000 vertical feet of climbing. Come cheer on the hard core!
March 16 Jay’s Straightjacket Challenge
This is your chance to test your speed on Peak 9’s EpicMix racecourse, all for a good cause, because proceeds benefit Mountain Mentors, a local organization that helps children enroll in summer sports and dance programs.
March 19 Orbital Flight Presented by Red Bull
Watch Breck’s own Bobby Brown and Eric Willett take on other high-flying pros as they throw down their best tricks off Peak 8’s massive Big Air jump, all to live music, a light show and videos, all for free.
March 19-20, GoPro Big Mountain Challenge
You know those videos of skiers launching down super steep, powder-filled terrain, gracefully dropping off of one cliff after another? Well, here it is in person. The world’s best junior free skiers descend on Breck’s extreme terrain (Sixth Senses) on Peak 6 to rock their best line in the fastest time.
Beginning March 18 and lasting through the rest of the ski season, things warm up to a fever pitch on and off of the mountain, with free live music on weekends at the base of Peak 8 as well as Park Jams for prizes to wrap up the season.
The Bunny loves Breck and in addition to leaving hundreds of colored eggs all over the slopes on March 27 for young skiers and riders, all ages (minus ski or snowboard gear) are welcome to attend the sunrise Easter Service on Peak 9.
Apres ski sunny decks
Restaurant decks at Peaks 7, 8 and 9 are more sun-drenched than ever this time of year. The absolute best way to wrap up a day on the slopes is by soaking up rays with a beverage in hand. In town, the best sunny afternoon spots can be found at Kenosha Steakhouse, Mother Loaded Tavern and if you don’t mind traveling a bit for the most breathtaking view in town, The Traverse restaurant.
