Welcome to Breck

Holiday cheer lights up downtown Breckenridge

It’s that time of year again! Downtown Breckenridge becomes a holiday haven with lots of fun activities and events. Hundreds of locals and visitors alike came to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Breckenridge.

The evening started out with The Race of the Santas, a fundraiser run down Main Street in Breckenridge. As many dressed as the big guy, runners were very creative with costumes and even dressed as Mrs. Claus, toyshop elves and reindeer. This is an event for the entire family, and families with small children (and even some in strollers) jaunted down the course. A crowd lined the racecourse and gave high-fives and cheers to runners as they passed. Hot chocolate was served after the race, with sugar cookies on the side.

There was no shortage of fun as the crowd mingled and laughed, while the dancing trees gave hugs to event-goers big and small. The crowd shifted to the plaza, where the Town Tree was waiting to be adorned by tree lights.

The “Jingle Singers” sang fun, holiday favorites with a modern twist before introducing Santa Claus on stage next to the Town Tree. Everyone gathered near to listen to Santa’s yearly message. Santa then initiated the most anticipated event of the evening: the tree-lighting countdown. Everyone helped in the countdown, especially the children enjoying the event. The plaza was filled with golden light just as the tree was lit – it was an especially wonderful moment!
