Welcome to Breck

Breck opens for the ’15-’16 season

Breckenridge opens for it’s 54th season today to an excited crowd, snow covered trees, and hungry skiers and riders. The Colorado SuperChair, 5Chair, and Rip’s Ride are servicing 80 acres of terrain on Springmeier, Trygve’s and Middle 4 O’clock as well as a few jumps and rails in Park Lane on Peak 8.

Each year, the team awards the honor of first chair to notable armed services men and women in honor of Veterans Day. This season, first chair went to 13 Foxtrot Fire Support Specialist Zach Barrett of Buffalo, NY and Sargeant retired Keith Deutsch of Littleton, Colo., a combat engineer who was awarded a Purple Heart by President Bush after losing a leg on a convoy in Iraq. Breck Snow Message 11.12.15 shot by Joseph Large-25

While riding the First Chair is exciting to Deutsch on his own, he really was looking forward to seeing the look on his daughter, Ava’s face when she got on snow.

“Really it’s about her now,” Deautsch said. “4 years ago it would be about my perfect run, but now it’s about the little one.”

Barrett and best friend Kyle Carson were also excited for First Chair and Opening Day. Barrett was nominated to receive the honor through Breckenridge’s Facebook page and upon notification that he had won, took the train out from Buffalo to get to Breck for the occasion.

“We spent 33 hours on the train to get here,” Barrett said. “It was quite the ordeal because we hit a few storms, but Opening Day at Breck has been on the bucket list for years.”

Those that participated in Opening Day festivities enjoyed free cinnamon rolls from Ski Hill Grill, Sobe drink samples and other prizes courtesy of Breck’s strategic partners. Free photo prints from EpicMix Photo were also available as well as  DJ DC who got everyone dancing in Red Bull’s MXT DJ truck.

Opening Day is just the first of many exciting events to come to Breckenridge this year. On December 10, the Dew Tour will land in Breck with the best athletes, competitions, concerts and more. In January Breck will host Ullr Fest and the International Snow Sculpture Championships and in April, Spring Fever comes back to Breck with exciting concerts right at the base of Peak 8.

Planning a trip to Breck? Make sure to secure your season pass before they are no longer available on November 23. Lift and Lodging packages are also available.

Enjoy the 54th season, skiers and riders!
