The 2015 GoPro Big Mountain Challenge
Last year, Breckenridge and GoPro introduced the GoPro Big Mountain Challenge. This years it’s back, and its bigger and badder. This IFSA sanctioned event take place on the Six Senses terrain on Peak 6, Breck’s newest terrain. With steep lines, tight chutes, and big cliff drops, this youth freestyle event will test some of the best big mountain free riders in the country as they compete for points in the IFSA series.
Due to the popularity of last years inaugural event, this year the Challenge was opened up to youth ski and snowboard athletes aged 9-18. Both male and female riders dropped in and picked their lines carefully, as points were awarded for strong skiing, cliffs drops, airs and tricks. All the age groups were throwing down their absolute best. While there wasn’t much new snow on the course, the weather was gorgeous both Saturday and Sunday and the snow stayed soft throughout. This made for some fast lines and impressive reactions from the athletes.
Being an IFSA sanctioned event, we had riders competing from all over the United States. Their enthusiasm for such an extreme sport at their young age ensured a fantastic show full of insane lines, big crashes and a pumped up crowd that couldn’t get enough.
Congratulations to this years winners! Click here for a detailed breakdown of the results. And stay tuned for next season; it will be even bigger.
