Olympic gold medalists go head-to-head at Dew Tour

Dew Tour Breckenridge

The world’s best freeskiers and snowboarders will get a rematch at Dew Tour at Breck from December 11 – 14, 2014.

If watching the Sochi Olympic halfpipe and slopestyle events made you wish you were there, your chance to be front and center is coming to Breckenridge Ski Resort on Dec. 11-14 with the Dew Tour Mountain Championships.

Ski Halfpipe Finals 2013 Dew Tour in BreckBe among the crowd so close to the action you get dusted by snow as the world’s best snowboarders and freeskiers grind to an exuberant halt after launching through a lineup of their biggest tricks in the pipe and off the massive jumps on Peak 8. Nearly every Olympic medalist from Sochi’s pipe and slopestyle contests will go at it again, some for the first time since the big stage in Russia. In fact, it was last year’s Dew Tour at Breck that served as a qualifier for the Sochi Games, in which U.S. winners (like slopestyle gold medalist and 2013 Dew Tour champion Jamie Anderson) earned a spot on the Olympic squad. Last February also happened to be the first time many people in the world learned about the existence of the jump-spinning and rail-riding terrain park contest of slopestyle, as the event made its Olympic debut in Sochi. Now that it’s on the global radar, there is bound to be more slopestyle stoke here at the Dew Tour.

All eight men’s and women’s gold medalists are signed up for the Dew Tour – Anderson, Sage Kotsenburg, Iouri Podladtchikov (aka “I-Pod), Kaitlyn Farrington, Joss Christensen, Maddie Bowman, David Wise and Dara Howell – plus a bunch of the silver and bronze medalists, too.

It’s pretty much going to be the Olympics all over again, except with even more talent, because the medalists will be taking on a slew of local, national and international athletes eager to etch their place among the pros and also those pros that barely missed a spot on the Olympic team or a spot on the Sochi podium.

Slopestyle SkierThis throng of athletes descends on the Peak 8 park and pipe beginning Monday, Dec. 8, when practice begins. Skiers and riders then take to the (snow-covered) pavement for a totally unique competition – the Dew Tour Downtown Streetstyle Contest – a judged event in which athletes ride a series of tabletops and rails in town on Washington Ave. Also, on Saturday night, EDM duo The Chainsmokers, who you may know from tunes like “#Selfie” and “Kanye” are performing live at The Riverwalk Center with openers The Knocks. Head to DewTour.com for tickets.
