20 inches of snow for opening weekend [video]
In a stunning display, the norse snow god Ullr blessed Breckenridge with 20 inches of snow over it’s opening weekend. In total, Breck has received 53 inches in the last seven days, setting up some great terrain for the start of the season.
On opening day, Peak 8 offered Springmeier, Upper 4 O’Clock Run, and Powerline. By Sunday; Spruce, Crescendo, Callie’s Alley and Swinger were open as well. The ropes on Spruce were dropped in dramatic fashion Saturday as excited skiers and boarders took to the fresh powder that fell that previous night and morning. Around three o’clock on Saturday the sky completely opened, giving us about two and half inches of snow per hour for almost the whole evening.
We awoke Sunday morning for what would be the first powder day of the season. While Springmeier and 4 O’Clock sported beautiful corduroy carpets, Spruce’s snow was left undisturbed. The runs were amazing, with fresh powder on top of an still soft base. The groomed trails also provided the perfect outlet to dig in an edge, and enjoy a beautiful day.
The snow message team decided to take a break and grab some lunch at the T-Bar today. Sitting outside, under the sun with a drink was the perfect way to cap off an amazing morning, and a pleasant reminder that the rest of the season lies before us.
