Opening week in Breckenridge – why six days are better than one

The snow’s been falling the past few days here in Breck and winter is knocking on our door. You know what that means? Only a few weeks until the lifts start turning and Breck becomes the liveliest place in the mountains. Pretty much every ski resort out there has an opening day – but no one celebrates theirs like Breck does. With an entire week of celebrations to feed the stoke leading up to Opening Day, spanning from the mountains to the Front Range, it’s hard to miss the festivities.
Tune into your Sixth Sense
It’s the biggest thing in skiing this year – the opening of an extra 543 acres of terrain and two new lifts at Breck! The Breck team is spreading the excitement with the Six Days of Sixes Scavenger Hunt by hiding six commemorative carvings of the new logo across six Colorado counties. It’s probably the biggest scavenger hunt around! Find a carving and you get first chair and first tracks of the season at Breck on Opening Day! Locations and pictures of the carvings are going to be teased on the Breck Instagram starting November 1st, so keep an eye out for clues as to where you’ll find them!
Wake Up Breck!
Wake Up Breck! is in its 11th year, and this year is shaping up to be the biggest yet. Set you alarms early on Nov. 7 to catch a locals’ favorite early morning party. The Breck team will be handing out 1500 commemorative coffee mugs for free starting at 7am sharp. It’s the most fun you can have this early in the morning (other than skiing) and you’ll want to make sure you’re on time because the mob goes after these things like it’s a feeding frenzy! Check the event page for a list of participating coffee shops. Oh, and your first drink is on Breck (drink of coffee, that is).
The Grand Opening
This is the big day; it’s Christmas come early in Breckenridge. It’s Opening Day and it’s time to carve, shred, slide, or fall down the mountain for the first time this season! We’ll be doing a special recognition in honor of our veterans and Veteran’s Day Weekend before the chairs start turning. And our partners will be on site handing out some sweet swag and delicious breakfast treats! Who doesn’t like the sound of Bavarian Cream Stuffed Nutella Éclairs? What about Nature Valley Soft Baked Oatmeal Squares? And Starbucks coffee in the lift line? All of this is free, of course, for the first few hundred people there (supplies are limited and people are hungry!) DJ DC will keep the party going while spinning tunes from Red Bull’s MXT DJ Truck, and don’t miss the ceremonial tapping of the first keg of the new, specially brewed, Peak 6 Ale.
So join the Breck Nation for the best season kick-off in the Rockies. We’ll be there, and we’re stoked.
